Just wondering how paranoid/careful everyone is when it comes to home security. I live in a small town where a lot of people don't even lock their doors
but I'm too paranoid for that. We only have simple knob locks-no deadbolts or anything-but I keep the doors locked when we're home during the day, I
lock the doors most of the time when we go out, and we have an alarm system that I turn on at night. Quite frankly, I don't worry at all about being
robbed. I just don't want to be home and have someone try to get into my house.

We lock our doors and windows. No alarm system. Plus we have a dog that barks at anything out of the ordinary so I think we'd have plenty of time to jam.

We lock and deadbolt everything plus every single window on every floor has an alarm on it. The alarm guy said he'd never seen a house with so many
sensors. We think the guy who lived here before us must have been robbed at some point in his life so he installed such an over the top system. But, it's a
great system and we always use it.

We live off the beaten path, so I wouldn't have a problem leaving everything unlocked, but out of habit I lock.

Deadbolts on exterior doors except the garage door, but that is closed all day. Alarm system that chimes if doors are opened during the day and alarm is set at
night to go off if doors are opened. If we take a nap during the day, we lock the doors and usually set the alarm. Almost all the windows also have security on
them (sense if window is opened) and will alarm if the alarm is set (will not alarm if the alarm is just on door chime mode) so that is why I arm the house
usually when we nap so that I know no one has come thru a window.
We live in a medium town in Central Florida. I am sure I am over-doing the security but people are getting crazier everyday and I do live near a sexual offender of children (< 1 mile away) The guy who installed our DirectTv service lives in Tampa and was telling me about a friend who had to shoot a guy who tried to abduct his daughter by crawling up thru the underside of their trailer and hiding in her closet till it was night. People can be nucking futs!

I have to keep deadbolt locked at all times b/c Mallory knows how to unlock bottom locks. I do this on front and back door. No security system, no dogs. and
plus in my neighborhood there are 3 cops..so hopefully that would scare someone.

Oh we always have it dead bolted here. We don't have to since our house is off of the street. Our neighbor has 2 huskies that live in front of our house
that always bark at everything..wind included.

We live in a small town (2500 people) and in a new subdivision so there are not tons of houses around us. We ALWAYS have the front door and garage locked. We
installed a security system in Feb just after we moved here, but still don't know how to use it

beth7919 wrote:Both kids can open our doors. We have those easy-open handles, not knobs. MissHeather88 wrote:We have this on the front door for the same reason. I was in the bathroom taking care of Gabrielle and usually we have the gates closed but somehow Alek got thru them and went out the front door (didn't have the locks on because my mom was on her way over) and I heard the chime and first thought it was my mom coming in. I said "Mom?" and no response... so I bolted towards the front and Alek was walking down the sidewalk. My mom was right there, kinda laughing about it, she didn't realize of course what had just happened (assumed I had been right there, or had sent him out to greet her or something.)

I live in a small town too. I have 3 outside dogs that are great watchdogs that run free (I dont have any neighbors close by) and I have an ADT home security
system. I even went as far as having an extra feature added so that if my phone lines are ever cut that the signal will still transfer via radio signal. With 3
small children and me being home alone I just needed peace of mind so I could sleep at night. We also have dead bolt locks and double locks (need a key from
inside and out to lock it) and we always lock our storm doors too.
When Im home during the day and Im alone I turn on the system...........but when the kids are here during the day they are outside and back inside so much I cant do it..........
